The following statement comes from an email from Midlands Rural Housing:
"I am writing to let the Parish Council know that we are no longer proceeding with the proposed development of affordable housing at the site known as The End at Newton Solney.
Following site visits by District Planning Officers and County Highways Officers the following objections were raised:
- The raised level of the site would lead to an overbearing impact on the neighbouring properties.
- The junction with Bretby Lane is narrow, has poor visibility and is a danger for right turning traffic.
- There is no footpath leading from the juction down Bretby Lane into the village.
These difficulties, combined with the high cost of bringing the road up to adoptable standards, make the development of just three properties unviable. Given that we have no other potential sites and given that the market for shared ownership properties is curently difficult, I think it is unlikely that SDDC will want to proceed further at this time. It is more likely that they will want to prioritise the limited resources available into providing rented properties that are urgently required in other parishes. I will, of course, let you know should I hear anything further.
I trust the Parish Council will understand the reasoning behind the decision and whilst it is regrettable that we are unable to provide these homes at this time, I believe that this decision is taken with the benefit of all residents of South Derbyshire District in mind."
